OUR
VOLUNTEERS IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER....
Cal
& Neoma (Kentucky)
Foster

We are Cal and Neoma, and we are an older couple that have always had a passion for the four legged children even though we have several grown children of our own. We had a late in life child that is a teenager now that shares our love for the animals. We met and got involved with True Heart Min Pin Rescuer, Cheryl through the hoarder situation the summer of 2009. We took in and fostered for UR-KY two of those hoarder dogs. One of them went on to another forever home and Lexi, a min pin / chihuahua mix found her permanent place in our hearts and remains here with us, with our other furbabies. Recently and at present we have had the pleasure of fostering four more dogs for THMPR. We treat these babies as though they will be living with us forever but know that as a rescuer, we care and love and let go when the perfect home comes along for the sweet little ones. Sometimes we cry and sometimes we smile and sometimes we do both, but we work toward the greater good of the little ones that we have the pleasure of loving and caring for on a daily basis.

"I
met Kim and Cheryl through a former colleague in the Fall of 2007 and became
part of True Heart shortly thereafter. Volunteering with a dog rescue has
always been a dream of mine - as dogs are my passion
(i.e. my dogs are "my kids") - and being able to be a part of this
wonderful rescue has been so rewarding for me! It makes it all worthwhile
when we finish an application and find out that one of these furbabies has
finally found a forever home, or an application comes in from out of the
blue for one of the dogs that has been waiting for so long... I am overjoyed
to tell new 'parents' they are approved to adopt one of our dogs, and during
transports, it's wonderful handing a furbaby over to the
new family and see how excited they are."
"Being part of the True Heart Family, and being able to do what I do for the rescue is so rewarding; I can't imagine NOT being a part of this rescue."

"This is my little girl Hailey. She was removed from a home by an ASPCA group when she was 2 years old and left at an animal shelter. A rescue group saved her just in time and Hailey stayed with a foster mom until she was adopted by a new family. The family ended up returning her to the rescue because they said she wouldn’t eat and was not happy. I met Hailey at an adoption event and adopted her the following week! Hailey is such a happy dog. Her hobbies include chasing squirrels in her back yard, going for long walks, bouncing 4 feet into the air repeatedly, attacking her molecule treat ball, and cuddling under the covers at night! I could not imagine my life without her! I am a young attorney practicing law in Michigan and my goal is to somehow use my degree to fight animal abuse and neglect. I strongly believe anyone thinking about adding a pet to his or her life should consider adoption from a rescue or shelter because these animals know you saved their life, and it really does show by the love and loyalty they give in return".

"Since
1984, people have asked me, “Why are you doing this? They are only stupid
dogs?” This is what I tell them: "I
know what true unconditional love really is because I've seen it in the eyes
of so many grateful for so little. Maybe you should learn something from them.”
"Most people just look at me stunned. I cry for every success we have and I cry for every broken baby we lose. They deserve to know that there are people who love them even if it is only for a short time. I have had rescue kids that have truly changed my life and taught me what is truly important. If this makes me and my husband crazy, then yes, crazy we are and I would not change one minute of it."
“Rescue is not a job, it is a heart filled desire."

I have been in the rescue world since 2008 and have worked with several different rescues throughout Michigan. I’ve been assisting with True Heart since April 2009. I have found it to be a very well organized rescue group and one that I am proud to be a part of.
