"When I adopted Piper from True Heart I met a wonderful group of people. I joined True Heart shortly thereafter and became a foster home. True Heart is a wonderful organization with true morals and dedication to making a difference."

"Rescue is the joy in my life. It brings me happiness and it overflows my heart with love. I look forward to the dog hair in my bed, the bad breath in my face, and the ever so sweet cuddling. The happiness in their eyes is what keeps me going. As long as they are happy I am forever happy."

- He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

Cal & Neoma (Kentucky)
Foster

We are Cal and Neoma, and we are an older couple that have always had a passion for the four legged children even though we have several grown children of our own. We had a late in life child that is a teenager now that shares our love for the animals. We met and got involved with True Heart Min Pin Rescuer, Cheryl through the hoarder situation the summer of 2009. We took in and fostered for UR-KY two of those hoarder dogs. One of them went on to another forever home and Lexi, a min pin / chihuahua mix found her permanent place in our hearts and remains here with us, with our other furbabies. Recently and at present we have had the pleasure of fostering four more dogs for THMPR. We treat these babies as though they will be living with us forever but know that as a rescuer, we care and love and let go when the perfect home comes along for the sweet little ones. Sometimes we cry and sometimes we smile and sometimes we do both, but we work toward the greater good of the little ones that we have the pleasure of loving and caring for on a daily basis.

"I met Kim and Cheryl through a former colleague in the Fall of 2007 and became part of True Heart shortly thereafter. Volunteering with a dog rescue has always been a dream of mine - as dogs are my passion (i.e. my dogs are "my kids") - and being able to be a part of this wonderful rescue has been so rewarding for me! It makes it all worthwhile when we finish an application and find out that one of these furbabies has finally found a forever home, or an application comes in from out of the blue for one of the dogs that has been waiting for so long... I am overjoyed to tell new 'parents' they are approved to adopt one of our dogs, and during transports, it's wonderful handing a furbaby over to the new family and see how excited they are."

"Being part of the True Heart Family, and being able to do what I do for the rescue is so rewarding; I can't imagine NOT being a part of this rescue."

"Since I was little I have always been taught to respect animals. My grandparents always had dogs and cats and I loved to be around them. Dogs hold a very special place in my heart. I never wanted the small dogs until I got my Sammy Sam… (R.I.P. lil man) he was my first min pin and I fell in love with him… He wasn’t in good health when I got him and he was 10 y/o. I had him 4 yrs before I had to make the hardest decision I have ever had to make and let him rest in peace. Then about 2 yrs later I was just browsing Pet Finder and I found Goliath, he is 10 y/o and amazing. He has definitely taken my heart.

I hate it when people say it’s just a dog… well no it isn’t just a dog… it breathes, hurts, mourns, loves and trusts… just as we do. A dog will always be loyal… how many humans do we know that we can say will be loyal like that to the end??

I think the saying let your dog choose your husband holds merit!! My Boxer loves him… so do the lil ones… Dogs are a very good choice of character. I’m lucky to be marrying a man that feels the same way I do about animals.

When you are sad they are always right there beside you to comfort you and “kiss” the tears away. Always, available to be a clown to make you laugh, and will protect you with their life!!!!

I am very happy to be a part of True Heart because I know the lengths we will all go, to protect an animal and help them in anyway we can."

"
Since 1984, people have asked me, “Why are you doing this? They are only stupid dogs?” This is what I tell them: "I know what true unconditional love really is because I've seen it in the eyes of so many grateful for so little. Maybe you should learn something from them.”

"Most people just look at me stunned. I cry for every success we have and I cry for every broken baby we lose. They deserve to know that there are people who love them even if it is only for a short time. I have had rescue kids that have truly changed my life and taught me what is truly important. If this makes me and my husband crazy, then yes, crazy we are and I would not change one minute of it."

“Rescue is not a job, it is a heart filled desire."

"Outside of the "nuts and bolts" that we do for True Heart MinPin Rescue (ie. fostering, home visits, etc) I would say that that being a rescuer does more for us, than we do for it - each animal teaches us something new about the enduring spirit of animals even after they've been through horrific, loveless existences . . the fact that they can still give their hearts to a human and it's unconditional . . that shows us that we have so much to learn from them as caregivers. Knowing that we've helped to save a life is priceless . . . I continue to get emails from adopters of animals I've fostered in the past, telling me just how much that dog has brought to their life and how much they love them . . it's part of what the Lord has put us here to do - to love and care for His creatures . . as scripture says, "What you do for the least, you do for Me."

Allysa: "I grew up living next door to my grandfather. He was, by my definition, the patron saint of stray animals. He instilled in me the big heart and huge desire to do everything in my power to save lost or abandoned animals. When I feed or try to pick up stray dogs and cats I feel like I am continuing the legacy of my Papa, and I know that would make him proud.

"As a child, Tevie wanted to be a veterinarian. Though he chose a different path in life he has never lost his love for animals. "

We know we can't save them all, but there is so much we can do to make the lives of the ones we do save better. That's why we rescue!"

I have been in the rescue world since 2008 and have worked with several different rescues throughout Michigan. I’ve been assisting with True Heart since April 2009. I have found it to be a very well organized rescue group and one that I am proud to be a part of.
